After throwing a 14" tall cylinder, I remove from wheel and alter the piece. Using various tools I cut holes through the pottery to create a sculptural form. Also shown is how the piece is glazed. Here's how I do it.

  • i loved your glazing ..thanx

  • Amazing. Beautiful glaze work :). Also... always wondered how to do the altered forms with holes lol. Thank you!!!

  • i did this same closing in process but w/ wooden paddles..rubbed my wholes for about a minute+...it was also pretty much directly after being thrown..the only problem that happened was my holes separated while it dried...which i heard you state here :\ did you dry them slowly like under a bag?

    ill try again eventually :)

  • thanks for your comments. these glazes are fired at cone 6 oxidation. i think there are lots of glazes called tea-dust... but this one was fired at cone 6. I'm happy to send recipe if you'd like.

  • If you have facebook add Beckman's Ceramics. i have an altered pitcher like yours on there that i made after watching this video. i also made some tea pots using the same technique. it really opened a new door for my ceramics. thanks!

  • After watching this i made a couple pitchers and a tea pot the same way. it was a lot of fun. maybe someday ill post them on here

  • The Final Pieces came out great. I love the videos when they show you the final piece not just how to do it on the wheel.

  • Nice series

  • Wonderful results. Your glazes and technique are awesome. I enjoyed seeing the entire process to the finished piece.
