A mind-bending puzzle that became my obsession. I can finally sleep at night. It has many flaws, but plays, sounds and looks AWESOME. I did everything myself except cut the fret slots on the fretboard. The body is two pieces of Alder, neck is Rock Maple, fretboard is Indian Rosewood. Wilkenson tuners, Gold EMG 81/85 combo, handmade bone nut and hardware from around the world.

  • i've seen this vid like 10 times now. great work. i'm obssesed w the 58 v and i'm attempting my first build. limba should b here anyday now. where'd u get the v tailpiece. thanks a lot for making this vid. i hope mine comes out as nice as yours

  • @peterhbyrne I got the tailpiece at wdmusic.com about 4 years ago...i tried to pick up another one there, but I couldn't find one, but maybe they have them again. Post some pictures when your's is done, I'd love to see it!

  • hey mike, love the vid. just starting a flying v build of my own, and i love the way the finish turned out on yours. could you just describe what kind of paint/finish you used, and the process for finishing?

  • @shademonger13 Yeah, it was just min-wax water based wood stain (the yellow color) that I painted on and sanded away a little...then I made a HUGE mistake and used Deft furniture lacquer for the actual finish. I ended up re-shaping the neck about a year later, and was able to cover the neck, headstock and back of the body with a proper guitar lacquer (lawrence mcfadden brand).

  • Check my channel page- there's a video that shows most of the measurements. If something's missing, send me a message.
