Tummakhoung is a highly popular salad among Lao people. In my first pilot demonstration, I show how to make green papaya salad the most authentic Lao way possible. Tummakhoung is not only delicious and light, but it is a food with so much meaning in my own personal life. In my younger days, my family used to make tummakhoung to sell to people at Hmong New Years and at our family's grocery store. It was what sustained us and put other food on our table. It was our "Na" or rice field that provided for our family with its earnings. This is why tummakhoung holds a special place in my heart. I hope you enjoy and learn how to make this most beloved Lao dish of them all.
