ENDEAVOUR AND ATLANTIS: LAUNCH PAD NEIGHBORS FOR THE LAST TIME KSC (NEW)
At NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, space shuttle Endeavour completed
its 4.2-mile trek from the Vehicle Assembly Building and was secured to
Launch Pad 39B at 7:17 a.m. EDT. With Atlantis on nearby Launch Pad 39A,
this marks the final time that two shuttles will be on the launch pads at
the same time, as the shuttle program draws to a close next year.
Atlantis is targeted for launch May 12, when its crew will begin the STS-125
mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope.
Prior to its STS-127 mission to the International Space Station, Endeavour
will remain on standby at the launch pad in the unlikely event a rescue mission
would be needed for the Atlantis crew during their mission. After Endeavour
is cleared from its duty as a rescue spacecraft, it will move to Launch Pad 39A
in preparation for its targeted liftoff June 13.

To all US citizens out there. Next year the shuttle program is due to end America will lose the ability to fly people into space for at least 5 years, very probably much longer. Along with the capability will go the experiance and know-how about how to fly safely. The country, which has lead the way in spaceflight since the moon landings, will be relegated to third or fourth place in the leage of space faring nations. Don't let it happen, contact your senator and the media.
