A movie for all those whose loved ones were away serving in the Navy/Marines over the holidays. Filmed from the G Street Mole park at the Port of San Diego. The fireworks at the beginning are from Sea-world, and the "76" ship shown in port across the bay is the USS Ronald Reagan. The bronze statue Bob Hope, and the (New York Times Square V-J Day photograph based) sailor kissing the nurse is the forty foot high "Unconditional Surrender" statue. The ship shown several times adjacent to my position is the USS Midway aircraft carrier, which is now a museum. They were having a party on board that evening.
The restaurant in the background is the Fish Market, and the boat passing behind the bow of the USS Midway is the ferry returning from Coronado.
The "Unconditional Surrender" statue is based on the V-J photograph taken by
Alfred Eisenstaedt at Times Square, New York. He took it on August 14, 1945, as the announcement of Japan's surrender was made. Edith Shain is known to have been the nurse in the photo. Recently at the age of 91, she died on June 20, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. There are several sailors who came forward claiming to be the one in the photo. It is most likely that it was either George Mendonça, Carl Muscarello, or Glenn McDuffie. To read the full story here is a link at Wikipedia,,,

The statue is on loan to San Diego since 2007.
