DISTINGUISHED LECTURER: Dr. Daniel Webster , ScD (Associate Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; Co Director, John Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research). Title: Public Health Approaches to Reducing Gun Violence

Daniel Webster has been a core faculty member of the John Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy since 1992. He has published articles on firearm policy, youth gun acquisition and carrying, the prevention of gun violence, intimate partner violence, and adolescent violence prevention. He has studied the effects of a variety of violence prevention interventions including state firearm policies, community programs to change social norms concerning violence, public education and advocacy campaigns, and school based curricula.

On behalf of the OSU Youth Violence Prevention Advisory Board, I would like to welcome you to our first annual conference, Promoting Community Safety and Preventing Violence: Integrating Lessons from Research and Practice, June 26, 2009 Columbus, Ohio. This conference provided an opportunity for participants to learn from each other about the latest knowledge on community safety and violence prevention issues. Each session has been designed to include the perspectives of researchers and practitioners.
