@monivienna - It helps to approach contradance with an open mind: open to fun, open to smiling, open to learning something new, open to interpretive dress! You'd be surprised how an individual's degree of fashion sense doesn't seem to have a high correlation to his or her dancing skill. An ability to be light on one's feet does not depend on footwear. Nor does having fun have a dress code, LOL!
And good on you Seattleites (Tom & Amy?) for getting yet another contra community started!

Its nice, its funny - I love DANCING so much - but this dresses are terrible.. - Why they cannot order a dresscode for all?? Shorts, soxs, alpine boots, tank tops and snug dresses for fat women... Dancing have to be pretty, elegant, aesthetically!!!

@Khalilullah, wasn't sure if you were cracking a joke or not, but just in case you were seriously asking... traditionally, in dancing, men "lead" and women "follow" their lead. In this dancing, either the woman or the man can "lead." This dancing is "gender free" in the way it is done. Looks like everyone has fun! Can't wait to join in!
-
...and yet I see males and females? How is this gender-free?

I was at the dance last Saturday night from Oklahoma and it was a great time. Did they change halls from the time this video was taken to the present?

You have the finest documentations of contra I have yet to see on the internet. Continuous music, clear shots, but the video clips line up with the sound. It thrills me!

i look forward to coming in march i remember a seattle band called Salmonberry....

Cool, live music, nice that callers are using "leader" and "follow", and great video production too

moments like these, i wish i had a car.
Yes, they did. The first few dances were at Washington Hall on Capitol Hill, but the rent was too steep. It's now at the Odd Fellows Hall in Ballard, in NW Seattle.
