  • How did you teach your horse to rear? I was playing with my horse and getting him to pick up his feet with my carrot stick (parelli stick) today but I'm not sure where to go from there. Your horse looks so soft and so responsive:) I'm worried that if I tech my horse to rear he'll start doing it all the time, what do you think?

  • Here is how I did it: Teach the basic commands of backing up, going forward, and moving off left and right from the ground. After that, I started by tapping him on the chest while holding the lead rope so he couldn't back up. Not knowing what I wanted, he tried moving off left and right, but I blocked his forward motion with the stick and then kept tapping. cont. . .

  • Eventually, once he tried back, forward, left and right without success, he tried up, and I rewarded him with release (stopped tapping) and a cookie, and then repeat. You do have to be careful though and make sure that you reward not rearing as well, or you may end up with a horse that rears to get a cookie when you are asking for it. Hope this helps.

  • If you are in parelli, what level do you learn this in?

  • I would peg myself at the high end of Level 2, just starting to play around with some of the finesse/refining moves in Level 3. It's not something that you would specifically find as a Parelli task, but I have established a language with which I can ask him to do new things.

He's a left brain extrovert, so I have to constantly find new things to keep him engaged.

  • @SavvyK52 My horse kept spinning to the left. After a while I started to get reaaally annoyed because no matter what I did she would keep spinning. she did 3 small little jumps which I rewarded sooo much haha. then after a while of me gettin annoyed I put her away. took her out the next day and guess what. on the first try she did it! :D Im so proud of my Jazzy. except I havnt done it with her for like.. 5 days because she was started to get antzy and wanting to rear whenever i had the whipthing

  • @diamondcrazy1 wow I'd hate to see how your horses react to you!!! And I guess you know nothing about horses reactions cause that horse is totally relaxed and I have seen how they train Lippizaner stallions!!!! It's not cruel in any way!!!! If a horse was scared it's reactions would tell you and that horse is not scares or in defense it's RELAXED!!!!

  • have you done teaching to bow as my horse does doesnt get it! any tips?

  • This is lovely...Its so nice to see someone being patient and taking the time to teach there horse correctly without forcing them into it and causing discomfort! Lovely video!

  • how old is your horse? haha i have a buckskin gelding right now that is about 3-4yrs old and he looks almost identical to your horse!

  • @RowdyCowgirl0601 have you seen them train the horses??? and can you understand the horse, and see what there reactions are? the horse can either over react as one of my horses does or show very little reaction but can still be scared, like my pony.

  • @diamondcrazy1 PART 2 ALSO if this was abusive, cruel, or mentally/physically damaging to the horse in some way why in the freaking hell would the USA and many other countries allow the Lipizzaner stallions to tour ALL OVER THE DAMN WORLD were most of their show is omg whats that???!!?! HORSES REARING! or as the Lipizzaner owners put it " FEATS ABOVE THE GROUND!" well hot skippy what do ya know about that.....those horses sure as hell dont look scared to me....

  • @diamondcrazy1 answer me this does that horse look afraid, pissed off, or like its in defense mode......NO it does NOT!!!! that woman is not whipping kicking or throwing anything at the horses face to cause any kind of distress to it AT ALL. ALSO horses learn by repetition, SO if a horse is acting "in fear", or "defense" doesn't that mean that every time a person walks in front of it now it starts rearing pinning its ears back or trying to be aggressive in some way?

  • @RowdyCowgirl0601 yes but wht i am saying is that the horse has to weither do it through fear or defending them selves, so you have to use one or the other to make them do that

  • Some folks on here really need to lighten the heck up. Everything you can get your horse to do "on command" solidifies your relationship with your horse through trust. It also establishes a common form of communication when it's done correctly. Watch dressage when the horse and rider on moving as one. It's the same thing. Just becuase you may not agree with that particular technique or style is no reason to be rude. "If you don't have anything good to say..."
