Well the region of ancient Macedonia which
is in Greece, has been Greek ethnographic territory
since ancient times, that is land always inhabited by Greek peoples.

You greeks are crazy just look at your modern greek history in the last 160 years and will prove you that when foundation of the greek state macedonia and macedonian history was not implemented untill years later when the balcan countries saw opertunity to take some more land of the otoman ocupied macedonia

[Dr. Stephen Batchelor, 'The Ancient Greeks for Dummies']
"Macedonia was - and still is - a territory
of northern Greece, the ancient Macedonians were
of Greek origin and spoke a broader rougher
dialect of Greek."

On the contrary, Modern Greeks have
a definitive ethnic connection with ancient
Greeks and Greek city states. Modern Greeks
are genetically the same people as Southern Italians
and Tuscans. Southern Italians are known descendants
of ancient Greeks since ancient Greeks heavily colonised
Southern Italy, known as 'Magna Grecia', therefore
modern Greeks are linked to ancient Greeks.

@billytheluckyhorse Correct, the so-called 'macedonians' of FYROM are in fact the same people as Serbs and Bulgarians and are therefore Slavs who speak Bulgarian. There is thus a difference between FYRM's and Greeks. FYRM,s are Slavs who settled in the Balkans in the 8th century AD. and have NO CONNECTION with the ancient Macedonians who were a Greek tribe speaking the Greek language, worshipping Greek gods, withe Greek names of the months and Greek personal names.

Yes, but theSlav people of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
(FYROM), are the same people as Serbs and Bulgarians.
They are a medeival people of the 8th century AD. They have
no connection with the ancient Greek tribe of Macedonians
of the time of the Greek warrior King Alexander the Great
who were a Greek race, speaking the Greek language,
worshipping Greek gods, with Greek names of the months
and Greek names, who lived in the northern Greek kingdom
of Macedonia.

@d0dger91 Actually you can't draw the comparison with Scotland and England. Scots are Celts and English are Anglo-Saxons. Macedonians were ethnically a Greek tribe, that is, Macedonians were genetically the same as the other tribes of Southern Greece. A more suitable comparison between Macedonians and Athenians, for example could be between the Cornish and Welsh. Both Cornish and Welsh are Brythonic Celts both speaking the Brythonic Celtic language.

Macedonia had never been Greek as the modern Greeks trying intensly to claim.
In fact fact the Macedonians dispaised the ancient Greeks even though the City States was never called Greece or Greek. Today we wronly imply to the City States as Greece therefore dirtectly linking modern Greeks to the ancient City States. As we know modern Greeks have little if not at all ethnic connection with the City States.
Macedonia had never been Greek, however one part of historical Macedonia is occupied by Greece since 1913, they think this gives them the right to claim Macedonia belongs to them.

Both Herodotus and Thucydides describe the Macedonians as foreigners, a distinct people living outside the frontiers of the Greek city-states.
E Badian concluded that, whatever the ethnic origins and the identity of the Macedonians, they were generally perceived in their own time by Greeks and themselves not to be Greek.
Badian shows that, until quite late, the Macedonians as a people were excluded from the Panhellenic festivals in which only Greeks were permitted to participate.

Macedonians fought for Macedonia and for the Macedonian Empire, not for some other tribe or nation.

[David Sacks (1995), 'A Dictionary of the
ancient Greek world." Oxford University]
"Historians refer to this enlarged
Greek society as the Hellenistic world.
At the start of his reign, the 20 year
old Alexander was the crowned king
of only Macedon - a crude Greek Kingdom
of mainland Greece. His mother, Olympias
came from the ruling clan of the north-western
Greek region of Epirus."

@HaggisMacfee stop the lies. The documentary clearily says Macedonians fought for Macedonia for a Macedonian Empire
