Mounted Police charge protesters at Whitehall 24 November

I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone that's helped to spread this around.

I wasn't planning on uploading this, I assumed the BBC would mention it along with their coverage of all the other protests, they didn't.

These protesters are not those who were kettled outside the treasury building, we weren't allowed in for that, after some kids had started fires and thrown some sticks n junk at the police lines separating us from the main protest they began to move forward.


This happened about an hour and a half after police started pushing us back, they had already deployed the cavalry 3 times, although those instances were less aggressive than this one.

I have decided to follow the anticuts campaign and make a documentary out of all the footage I gather, so this will eventually be in there.

know what mate, I actually agree with you. plenty of protests chants have grown really tedious for me and that's one of them. another one I hate is "get those animals off those horses"...factually it doesn't state anything challenging at all, we're animals, the horses are animals, what of it?

These people need to get a life and get a job! My boyfriend is a mounted police officer and let me tell you... They laugh about the names they get called... Scum?.. Gosh, I'm sure they've never heard that before! Prick?..Ouch! They shout abuse at the horses and riders because what else can they do?... Hit 2,000 pounds of pure muscle? No, they run away and get defensive lol.

that is a fair point, and the names protesters call the police does often piss me off as well, "get that animal off that horse" is one of the most annoying ones. But as an aside I did actually stand my ground against one of the horses on this protest, don't know why it just felt like the thing to do at the time. The horse just nudged into me, stepped back a bit, then trotted on. We don't all shout names then run.

The police here did their job and they did it well. I am all for protesting but you need to protest with RESPECT. This means not SWEARING at officers and not gathering huge numbers in unlawful areas. Plus, why is that woman crying? Cause she's pregnant? She needs to get a grip and grow a brain. Why would you go to a protest if you're pregnant? Do you know how many people even accidentally knock you over? Jesus people are DUMB

Its a reference to how human beings are meant to be more civilised than charging in to a crowd full of protesters on top of horses where people can be crushed and trampled. As such calling a human being an animal, while calling the horse by its race is meant to demonise them. Sorry if you were just being sarcastic. Also I think that the tactic is just plain wrong. The horse may be trained not to trample or be gentle but a crowd surging back in terror and fear and inadvertently crush someone.

Hmmm next time I find myself protesting having to pay obscene fee's to a incompetent and elitist government for an education, I'll make sure to bring to bring a sharpened pole and see if 2000 pounds of pure muscle is stab proof. As a 2012 student having to pay these obscene fees, putting myself in debt to my 40s to just get a university education, I fully support these riots and would have participated myself if I had been in the country. I also condemn the people of this country supporting the government in this. And you know why they support it? Because they have already got their degrees and it doesn't affect them. Its easy to condemn something that doesn't affect you isn't it.
