Figured another mine-related song was in order :) Thanks to NovaScotian1992 for jogging my memory on this one.

Province of Nova Scotia
This cairn marks the place where
DR. DAVID E. ROBERTSON
HERMAN RUSSELL MACGILL
CHARLES ALFRED SCADDING
of Ontario were entombed
From April 12th to April 22nd, 1936
By the collapse of the
MOOSE RIVER GOLD MINE
Men from other mines in Nova Scotia and Ontario, working under most hazardous conditions, succeeded, by driving a small tunnel through the broken rock, in bringing Dr. Robertson and C. A. Scadding out alive.
H.R MACGILL DIED ON THE SEVENTH DAY.
This cairn also marks the position of the borehole, which reached the underground workings on the sixth day, and through which direct telephone communication was established and food supplied to the men until the rescue was completed.

  • This is great.

I had never heard this before.

Stompin' Tom did a version of this song in the early 70's. It is extremely rare.

    Thank You for posting.

  • Glad you like it...I'd love to hear Tom's version if you ever come across it.

  • I like it too :) love the historical songs.

  • I LOVE WILF CARTER!! NOW KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT !! THANK YOU FRIEND!!! LOVE THIS SONG!! NEVER HEARD IT!!!

  • @Hellyer23 Jack Turple wrote several songs but not this one. Wilf Carter was listening to the news reports by Frank Willis when they got the two survivers out shortly after midnight on April 23rd. He finished the song and recorded it later the same day.
