This was the first pocket knife I ever owned.

They were brought back to the United States by GI's after WWII. They really caught on and by the late 1950s when Solingen had begun to rebuild they began to be imported in large numbers.

I have found documents in the Solingen city archive with this knife design going back to the mid to late 1800s. But, I believe it may be older than that.

The patent has been bought and sold over the years. It is now owned by Otter-Messer and can still be bought today.

It is a simple, elegant design that has withstood the test of time.

  • @QUERCUSst Yes, they make stainless and carbon steel

  • @maxcontax they also make stainless

  • nice beat 0:44

Opinels take a very fine edge. the simple design and good handle make them very very practical. I have had several over the years, cheap and good.

the remarkable thing about this knife is the blade is carbon steel not stainless steel making it easier to put a shaving sharp edge on it. Most of my knives are stainless, good steel but this k55 takes a wicked edge.

  • @MisterMinnesota Its a good pocket knife. You are not going to slay draggons with it. But it will always be handy when you need a knife.

  • @aaaaagggghhhhhable Just the same or maybe better. It won't hold the same value or personal story though.

  • @aaaaagggghhhhhable Just as well if not better. But it will not hold the same value or story.

  • @maxcontax I would be heartbroken if someone took my favorite pocket knife too. K55K all the way.
