great movie, by the same guy that did boogie nights, magnolia..
John has lost all his money. He sits outside a diner in the desert when Sydney happens along, buys him coffee, then takes him to Reno and shows him how to get a free room without losing much money. Under Sydney's fatherly tutelage, John becomes a successful small-time professional gambler, and all is well, until he falls for Clementine, a cocktail waitress and sometimes hooker

  • I don't like this movie just to seem cool. It's a great movie.

  • that melora walters has got some incredible legs.

  • One of my favorite gambling movies.

  • @landmanfilms Did you ever figure out what that song is? I'm looking to sample that bell in a track.

  • ...and what a performance from Philip Baker Hall. He plays the man haunted by his past so well! Kudos to Pt Anderson too. He must of still been in his 20's when he made this, yet still commands his cast with great maturity. I love PTA!!

  • @landmanfilms You mean the bell? it goes like dong-dong, yeah i know what you mean its in boogie nights where dirk gets beat up and jack horner beats up that one kid

  • @theburlystrapper oh it is!!!

  • does anyone know the song that plays over the intro credits in the actual movie? its kinda soft, and it also appears briefly in boogie nights. thnx.

  • can't tell if this looks good or not..

  • This movie is much better than the trailer makes it look.

  • I really wonder what sort of control PTA had with this picture. It's obvious that there were some hands in the pot, because he had some issues getting his way -- especially with the film's title. Plus, the matchbook scene with the flashback is really not PTA's style. It's a little too much like Filmmaking 101.
