Every Child By Two (ECBT), a Non-Profit Organization, Explains the Dangers of Influenza in Children

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), each year in the U.S., between 5 and 20 percent of the population is infected with influenza (flu), causing more than 200,000 hospitalizations and approximately 36,000 deaths. Although the public is informed that they should receive a flu shot every year, immunization rates remain dismally low for flu vaccine. Many people don't realize that it is especially important to immunize children 6 months to 18 years of age.

Actor Amanda Peet faced the vaccination controversy while pregnant with her first child in early 2007. Throughout her pregnancy, many of her Hollywood friends recommended she delay or completely refuse vaccines for her new baby, suggesting that vaccines were the cause of disorders such as autism. Amanda and her husband were skeptical about these warnings and fortunately decided to do their own research. Based on the scientific evidence, Amanda and her husband decided to fully vaccinate their child using the schedule recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the AAP.

Amanda wants to ensure that all new parents are equipped with the information they need to make important decisions regarding their children’s immunizations. She and ECBT have worked together to create a comprehensive Web site – www.vaccinateyourbaby.org – which helps parents navigate the science and answers their tough questions about vaccines. ECBT has also created these public service announcements, in cooperation with the AAP, to notify parents about the Web site and remind them about the importance of timely immunizations. What? What are you talking about?

1 - Autism has no cure.

2 - Hospitals don't have the facilities to help autistic children; that kind of thing is best left to social and behavioural therapy classes.

3 - You act as though these children are fatally ill. They are not. They will not die from their syndrome. Someone with the flu takes precedence over a healthy autistic child for a hospital bed.

Eh? I'm immunodeficient because of an inherited kidney disorder and the last time I missed my flu vaccine I caught the flu. Every other time I've had it, I've been relatively healthy.
