This short video snippet belongs with my other WW II segment of the North Sea passage to New York, but here stands alone. The photos were taken dockside in Portsmouth, England(?) in late 1944 and shows demobilized GI's boarding the troopship for their homes in The States. Nothing earthshaking here, yet a good record of the military adage "Hurry up and wait". The dog at the end was one GI's companion, but of course he wasn't allowed on the ship; the image of the MP's turning him away is touching. The officer at the rail is the photographer, Capt. Walter C. Peach, on his way home to New Jersey to marry his sweetheart.
