Recorded on one of Benny's first UK tours in 1983.One of Don's earliest memories was ,as a teenager, meeting the Kid Ory band backstage at a concert and lending his duffel coat to Henry Red Allen to go out for a drink. Over the years, as his jazz career developed he has played with many visting Americans on tour including, Benny Waters, Wingy Manone, Bud Freeman, Kenny Davern, Ruby Braff, Al Casey, George Kelly, Billy Butterfield, Thomas Jefferson, Jimmie Noone jnr, Herbie Hall, Snub Mosley, Eurreal Little Brother Montgomery, Louis Nelson, Alton Purnell, Wendell Brunious, Freddie Lonzo, even playing with Al Casey and George Kelly in New York. His favourite saxophonists include Sonny Rollins, Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Benny Carter, Coltrane, Parker, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins.
This is great jazz, Thanks! Benny's altoplaying is beyond everything. He makes it sound a bit like a clamrinet played in the second and third octave, which is truly remarkable and extremely difficult!
