  • PE failed because Huntington would not keep it in repair...it literally fell to pieces..

GM kinda pushed it into its grave..PE was not a publicly owned system

We still travel the same routes the old PE travelled..overlay the old system routes with the new freeway system..its almost a true fit

  • @bigsilverdaddy58 To me, it's all about Oil VS Electric. After the oil discovered in LA, the game changed.

  • The City of Los Angeles made a huge and devastating mistake to remove their public transit in the past... It's time to go back and turn to mass transit, its faster and cheaper...look at thriving cities like Chicago, New York City and San Francisco... Los Angeles has the potential, but their mass transit is weak.

  • @DaygoJer Not their mistake. It was by National City Lines.

  • Lets make GM expand that little Red Car Line all across LA with their stupid bailout money! Make them pay for the rail systems in which they shut down!

  • PE became history and now GM needs to go for goooood.

  • I say bring back any type of rail whatsoever, I am tired of how GM screwed over transit in the United States.

  • I hope they can expand this line to Cabrillo or Point Fermin

  • When those bribe-taking boneheads at City Hall did away with the 'Red Car', they threw multitudes of people where I lived out of work..

  • Boston has an extensive public transit system which includes PCC cars and 12 commuter rail lines.

  • @hotters7060

well LA has those long trains also and a subway believe it or not, but its still growing, not as extensive as nyc's

Los Angeles and New York City are my two most favorite cities in the world. for their pros and cons you just gotta love em... LA and NY traffic, frustrating and annoying but its what makes that city what it is today and somewhat makes it a vibrant and busy on-the-go city. or from ny bluntness and attitude to LA's materialism and road rage. you gotta love the culture

  • Oh Good Grief.... You're all misinformed! Nobody Rode the Red Cars. With insufficient ridershp, there was no money to upgrade the routes, maintain or modernize the equipment. The system was privately owned, heavily taxed. The PE lost money most of the years it was in operation. It's a pity! It was one of the most efficient urban transportation systems in the world. There is no real conspiracy here. The Public preference for cars put it out of business, not GM, BIG OIL, or BIG Rubber.

  • @DaygoJer That is the reason why I would rather move back to New York City! New York City is my favorite city in the world! They have a better transit system over there! Besides I don't really like street cars! I like trains that are long like Amtrak, Union Pacific, Santa Fe Railway and the New York City subway trains! I only like long trains! I don't like street cars!

  • @hotters7060

i agree that they should have left things alone... but at that time cars was seen as "the way of the future" and at that time suburbs and la was a city of the future... but look at it now haha they were wrong.. ppl wanna move back into the city.

Los Angeles had one of the most complex mass transit system in the past that rivaled new york's.. but la fcuked up. san diego did the exact same thing, removed their street cars that extended all the way to balboa park
