Join Lindsay, Jenny and Mike as they hike through one of Zion National Park's most exciting trails: The Subway. Located on the Kolob side of Utah's Zion Canyon, a trip down The Subway is perhaps one of the most coveted hikes in the world, and can be done only by permit. • Whenever I take people for the first time, I take a harness and belay device. This helps them feel safer, more secure, less anxiety and fewer injuries. Dislocated fingers must have been rough! That's a long way to go with throbbing digits...

By the way, that section isn't the keyhole. "Keyhole Falls" is further downstream...

  • @elkebowie Always best to be safe and well within everyone's abilities. Kudos for pointing that out. I'll have to dig into the keyhole thing, that may depend on who you ask I guess. I'll see what I can turn up. Thanks for watching!

  • what is with that unusually round rock at 6:14 wedged in the canyon walls.

  • @2bornot2b1984 That formation is called the "Keyhole." One of the reasons you have to carefully watch the weather when planning a hike down the subway is the area's propensity for flash floods. That rock has had a lot of water smoothing for a very long time. that's why it's perfectly round. Thanks for watching!

  • What is so interesting about certain parts of Zion, is that the trails that go through areas with water such as the Subway, or the Narrows, are never the same from one year to the next. They are always changing.

  • @uintakj Agreed. It's definitely not an experience that is the same from one year to the next. Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome!!! This is what I've been looking for! Terriffic quality, great people and excellent shots. Gives me a good view about a hike I was planning myself in future. Thanks a lot! Also for the other hiking videos.

  • Great video! Having hiked the Narrows in September, Angels Landings in June, I now have The Subway to look forward to on my next visit to Zion!

  • Great vid. You forgot to show the dinosaur tracks as you come out of the subway.. Just one more thing to show people as you take them on this hike.

  • I dislocated 2 of my fingers at the 5:30 part. I was downclimbing as the people are doing in this video (but using a rope with knots) and there was more water flowing down in that area at that time so our rope and the footholds was partially under cold running water. So I slipped and tried to get harder grip on the rope (bad idea), the knots on the rope didn't stop me, rather my fingers bent out of proportion when my grip hit the knots.

  • @2bornot2b1984 That section of the Subway is called the "Bowling Alley" and that's one of the balls, of course.

  • SIEG ZION!

"That rock has had a lot of water smoothing for a very long time. that's why it's perfectly round."

That is still unusual for a rock to be so round. Is it spherical from all sides, or just the angle the camera is looking from?

If that rock is spherical, I would say it was round before it wedged into that position.

Also it looks blackish gray, is that a shadow, or is it really that color?
