Jumpin' at the Woodside European All Stars 1988 Antti Sarpila and Christian Plattners are featured in Jumpin at the Woodside during the 1988 Bern Jazz Festival.
From their websites:
ANTTI SARPILA (clarinet & saxophones)
Antti Sarpila (born 1964) is one of the few internationally known jazz musicians from Finland. Although based in Helsinki, he performs extensively as a solo artist all over the world.
Antti Sarpila has been a student of the world famous American clarinet and saxophone player Bob Wilber during the 1980's. One of the highlights was in 1988, when Antti was asked to join Bob in doing a "Tribute to Benny Goodman" concert in Carnegie Hall, New York. In 2000 Antti renewed his visit to this legendary concert hall with the Swedish vibraphone player Lars Erstrand.
Christian Plattners was born in 1963 in Tulln, near Vienna, Austria.
He has been leading a 'triple life' -- with parallel careers in Music, Mathematics and Management -- since his teenage years.
Growing up listening to his father Helmut Plattners playing trumpet in traditional jazz and swing bands he soon
took up the clarinet and the alto saxophone. In 1979, his father founded the family band
Plattner & Plattners Jazz Corporation, which during the years would include
younger brother Bernhard Plattners on trombone, and their sister,
Susanne Plattners, as vocalist and guitar player.
From 1982, he studied Mathematics at Vienna's Technical University. Around the same time, he joined
Oscar Klein's European All Stars, touring Europe with the Austrian-Swiss trumpet player.
In 1985, he started his own company, doing business mainly in Software Engineering and Consulting.
With the tenor saxophone and the clarinet as his main instruments,
he began to appear as a soloist at European jazz festivals.
Leaving the Technical University in 1987, he already had attracted the attention of American musicians.
The other musicians are Henry Chaix(p), Lino Patruno(g), Roman Dylag(b), Gregor Beck(dm).

Benny Goodman's 1939 version blows this tepid version out of the water.

the first Tenor player sounded wondrfully Webster-ish. The second Tenor soloist was very Lester-ish. Both cats are formidable by any standard. Nice video.....

Wow! What a swinging group - great work by the reed men, especially on their chase choruses. Solid rhythm section and a great climax with the switch to high clarinet on the last chorus. Was that Henry Chaix on piano Bob? Whoever! It was great playing!!
