This is Leopold Stokowski's (1882-1977) lush orchestral transcription of the famous aria "Schafe können sicher weiden" (Sheep may safely graze) from J.S. Bach's Cantata "Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd", BWV 208 (The Hunting Cantata).

José Serebrier, Leopold Stokowski's protégé, conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Painting: Salisbury Cathedral, by John Constable.

  • Stokowski was a genius.

  • where is the singing? this copys all the time tz..........

  • @peephole2008 Sorry but the speed is just perfect ! ^^

  • Salisbury cathedral - beautiful. I am very partial to sheep and am not even from Wales

  • @peephole2008 Love it also like this ...

  • it is beautiful the speed it is at and actually the scores our orchestra has is about slower than that!!

  • A bit of speed will not hurt anyone.

  • @roquefort88888 I think it's lovely sung, but I certainly know what you mean about the need for speed, having played it myself with a singer.

  • I saw the Constable at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, CA.
