PSPscene The Golden Compass Sony PSP
Another PSP game release based around a movie, The Golden Compass was released around the same time as Beowulf.
Both games are typical of Movie/Game releases, they suffer from lack of innovation and add nothing in the way gaming.
Golden Compass is adequate and seems aimed at the younger gamer.
The game is essentially a Platform/Adventure game that is fairly decent to look at, with fair movie interpretation.
The characters graphics are mediocre and lack detail, The enviroments are very plain and dont really stretch the PSP enough.
That said, things are smooth and responsive and keep moving at a decent framerate.
SFX, music and voice overs are bland and are very average, nothing will thrill you here.
Gameplay is rather basic and should suit people, mainly youger children.
There are some fairly good game elements that are appear occassionally, using the analogue stick to control balance on ledges and poles, is a good example.
Fighting is very unexciting for more hardened gamers and lacks any real bite.
Fighting wolves with a Bear should be exciting, not "oh, here we go again"
The Golden Compass is very unspectacular, it's content is suited to youngsters and people who like a slower paced gaming experience, the game is lacking any real adrenaline.
The game isn't awful, just uninspiring and uneventful.
