John Milius is definitely underrated.

As a typical conservative blowhard who never served his country (except through my career as a 911 dispatcher or as a political activist who helped throw Jimmy Carter out of the White House), this guy makes far more realistic movies about far more relevant subjects than most producers. ie, Red Dawn was one of the likely scenarios if the country had been masochistic enough to elect Jimmy Carter. Red Dawn was another non-PC movie he made that annoyed pacifists. No revisionism here.

@MrSkylark1 Agreed. Milius may have a reputation as being right-wing (I haven't seen all his movies, so I don't know), but his characters and dialog in 'TW&TL' are much more complex than what we're seeing in modern adventure movies.

Excellent screenwriter. Even though Pedecarus was a man, there aren't many films today that can match the quality of Mr Milius' writing

@doctorzom1 Well, I served in uniform and find your criticism of John Milius to be without merit. I met Mr. Milius while I was serving on active duty in the Marines. I had the privilege to escort him on a tour of Camp Pendeleton in the early 1980s. He is a huge supporter of our troops and a good guy. I've met him, you have not. You are unqualified to make the comment you did. How have you served "everyday"?

And also the point isn't that everybody has to or should it it that there seems to be a glut of conservatives neo cons who romanticize war or who seem to have no problem acting tough and sending other to war but when it was their time to serve they were as Jesse Ventura calls them 'Chickenhawks'.
