  • @ephipi That's an awesome quote, but to follow the muse and 'flow' with it the way he's talking about you first have to have an INSANE amount of knowledge and a nearly encyclopedic musical vocabulary - all internalized to the point where it THEN comes out in its own way effortlessly. That's like saying all any random human has to do is just sit down with a guitar and magically start flowing with the music. Not gonna happen.

  • @SquigglyJ0e "unless you are Kenny G of course" haha made my day

  • @Inglejuice he might be trolling, though i think not. he's a 'polytone' purist. purism of any form is its own reward. the purists can have their own party, fine, i will enjoy whatever i like, and disregard their view. ,Wynton Marsalis comes to mind. snobbery is insufferable

  • @lanerant or sincerity, or 'its'

  • @Inglejuice haha, good point. Though I enjoy Pass' playing a lot, I don't usually find solo jazz guitar to have as much emotional impact as an ensemble effort. though, in keeping with my philosophy, no one style is better than the other, i just prefer 'band' music more. as a musician who can listen with his pre-musician's ears, solo guitar or piano or whatever devolves into sameness. gimme an ensemble!

  • @jamesedwardtheobald ack, i meant 'wider audience' and forgot the question mark on the first sentence. and i meant 'actual sound'. and i am a player, too, btw. i'd rather listen to funk and soul and fusion than solo jazz guitar. i am not saying solo jazz guitar is bad, though, music is all about preference, some great artists have near zero technigue, at least when it comes to theory and scales. those artists write great songs.instead. typically i frown on most purism

  • @strwy2hvn94 did he bag on pat's use of reverb or delay or chorus. effects are fine. i personally cannot stand the sound of dry guitar. it hurts my ears and my brain. a lot of 'polytone' purists didn't like pat when he first arrived. thing is, pat is the one laughing to the bank. jazzbos whom frown on trying to appeal to a wider artists can have their obscurity and allsamesounding solo guitar. it is mostly other musicians who can appreciate 'the lines being played' versus the sound

  • @jamesedwardtheobald It's maddening and inspiring isn't it? Hahahaha a truly gifted talent, he is!!!

  • It's okay..But doesn't really knock me out..Would love to hear Bireli kick some ass on this one

  • @swedishtwinsband

Good taste (for music as for everything else) is a tricky thing. We all think we have that and it's statistically untrue, considering the crap out there.

Nevertheless there's a possibility that being a musician might help (unless you are Kenny G of course). Good taste is a matter of knowledge as well, after all. Otherwise anybody might feel entitled to affirm for example that Pepsi tastes better than Barolo wine "because I think so".
