I've been addicted to this yummy fruit since I was a little girl when my mom introduced them to me. But here they sell them seasonally. Does anyone know when it starts?

I picked these up years ago 5 for a dollar lol. I like trying new things. The taste was awesome but the seeds were annoying.

@johnperez4628 In Arizona we skewer the tuna with a stick or a skewer and singe the skin quickly over a fire and then cut it open. This burns off the tiny burrs off of it and makes it as easy to handle as an apple. Afterwards,cut it open, peel the skin and enjoy. Very tasty fruit.

LOL, this is the first time i've ever seen a non-Hispanic eat a prickly pear!!
In mexico they are called "Tunas" that's the plural form, take the "s" off and you've got singular.
Its a lot easier to enjoy them if you cut off the tops and make a cut from top to bottom that's only as deep as the skin, then you just peel the skin off and you grab it and eat : )
Try not to chew the seeds, just kinda mash them up without actually biting them and then swallow.
