La Zebu Forte Overture by Roger Zare

Premiered by SONAR New Music Ensemble, Tong Chen conducting, Colin Sorgi director. Old St. Paul's Church, Baltimore, MD. March 10, 2009.

This work for string orchestra is based on Mozart's Magic Flute. It mainly parodies and develops fragments from the overture, and also includes references to the famous Queen of the Night aria. After a rhythmic opening, there is an extensive fugue. Towards the end of the work, there are some direct quotations from Mozart's overture.
