Here's my robot head. It has neck left/right and up/down motions, and a pair of eyes that can move left/right and up/down. The jaw can also move up/down. The rest of the body will follow in the future - to be continued...

  • Nice bud, really nice!

    Can you tell me how

    you made that? just asking.

  • Mostly r/c servos, meccano and some other bits I had lying around Including a sewer's dummy torso.

All controlled by a pic microcontroller.

  • @vectrexmad I see, and the microcontroller,

did you just connect the servo's to it? And how

    do you program it anyways?

  • Yes connect the servos directly to it. You can use a PIC microcontroller and program in C. There already is a C library for controlling servos.

Or if you've never done anything like this before I suggest you Google PicAxe. These microcontrollers are very easy (they are PIC microcontrollers) and can be programmed in BASIC. Or Google Parallax Stamp for an alternative microcontroller which is also simple and programmable in Basic.

  • @vectrexmad I see, and about the microcontroller

did you just connect the servos to it? And how

do you program it anyways? (sorry if the post

is like 70 times or somethin')

  • Yes, there are three wires on a servo, +5V (red), Gnd (black) and control signal (white or yellow). Connect the control signal to the microcontroller pin.

  • Kind of creepy, but neat. Shoulda inserted Pac-Man sounds when it was opening and closing it's mouth though! ;)

  • nice mechanics.

  • @vectrexmad Ok, thanks!

  • @vectrexmad Ok! :D

    So you're sayin' it's

    just C programming?

  • Thanks, mostly made from bits of meccano purchased from eBay, 4 servos for eyes, mouth and neck, and an electric screwdriver for the neck.
