@stybarrow like a piano but with glass plates, invented in the mid-1800s? In German we call it Glasplattenklavier. The Museum in Regensburg (Bavaria) has one (inventory number K 1975 33)

I'm afraid I couldn't find an English translation of the name anywhere :(
