Shooting steel at a laser-measured 703 yards with the .223 AR15 Bushmaster Varminter. Some wind, rain, and fading light to deal with, but I was determined to get this done. The elements only made it more challenging....and rewarding!

Scope is a Leupold Mark III 14 x 50mm, and it was stretched out on this setup. Focus was outstanding, and target aspect was still good. I could probably squeeze another 100-150 yards with this scope on the same size target and maintain reasonable accuracy.

  • UPDATE AUGUST 2011: I'm going to try this again at roughly the same distance but using two HD cameras; one from the shooting spot and a target cam. Also, I posted a video in July 2011 from this same location, shooting tracers at 800 yards with a carbine. That video is 1080p HD.

  • Maybe I'm blind, but where's the vapor trail?

  • @xxxcrosmanhunterxxx

Probably not visible due to the angle and quality of the camera I was using at that time.

  • Damn, you're a good shot, even if someone was that far out and you didn't hit them, you'd for sure get them to put there head down. Nice shots.

  • @Jacko4591 The .223 has a major advantage that allows it to literally compete in the same league as the heavyweight .30 caliber rounds...velocity. The 3400-3800 fps performance of the .223 makes it's trajectory in the first 300 yards look like a laser. It drops little away from 300 yards but only very little. The company Burris makes a special .223 scope ranged for 600 yards. If you use the aiming stakes at the bottom of the crosshair, you can hit out to 800 yards or more.

  • THANKS,great effort,once again

  • @Rachen30 : yeah but he was using .223 rounds at 700 yrds youre talking .308 big difference

  • @Jacko4591 Oh boy, you should try out the AR-10 SuperSASS semiautomatic sniper platform then. 1.5" groups at 600 yards with standard .308 FMJ. When I get my TM-10 stripped lower, I will build a .308 SuperSASS out of it.

  • i bet the barrel got a bit warm which would have affected accuracy a bit...but im astounded at the accuracy out of a semi-auto weapon

  • @redsfan293 Just one of many.

  • @fffreddie Quit being so humble, if you shot 241/250 you were a pretty damn good shooter

  • try a mile shot i bet you can do it :)
