The original version of this song is an old german folk song
from the 18th century called "Auf einem Baum ein Kuckuck saß" ( "A cuckoo sat on a tree")
It's about a hunter who shot a cuckoo dead, but one year later a cuckoo sang in the trees again. The cuckoo can be seen as a metaphor for truth and / or freedom and the hunter for somebody who tries to repress or eliminate it, but in the long run truth will always break free. The examples used in the song should be seen in the specific context of some things that happened and are NOT a general critic on a whole nation (where I met a lot of wonderful people, by the way). So, my dear friends overseas, please be kind.... it`s kind of a jester`s song if you want, "Whink" , a fictional character, does not necessaryly represent always the opinion of the author exclusively. Many things in this world could stand for the cuckoo and the hunter. Truth is neither white nor black, and often things are not what they seem to be at first view. Anyway, you should not believe blindly anything you see, read or hear, think for yourself and try to get to a conclusion, but often we simply don `t know what really happened, so dont´t be too hasty with any kind of judgement. And, even if things really get tough, keep some humor. In the long run it`s all dust in the wind
