The arch is a principle, once understood, you can make an arch out of just about anything.

  • Love this video geezzerboy, i saw a few pieces that i would love to own. I don't know how you even dared to walk under that amazing Stone Archway, how is it staying together?

    Top marks for the music!

  • As usual, you are too kind.

Gravity holds it up. The real secret is the wooden scaffolding that has been removed. It holds up the curving-in columns, until the keystone, or capstone, is in place. It pushes down and sideways. The sideways push is resisted by the weight of the columns, which includes the weight of the capstone.

Since the capstone can't make a hole to fall through, the downward push of its weight holds it up.

I reckon that archway would make a great mosaic!
