September 11, 2001.
Just before 10 am hijacked flight 93 is seen flying low and erratically over Southwestern Pennsylvania. At 10:03 it crashes, upside-down, at 563 miles per hour into a field in Somerset County (Shanksville PA). There are no survivors. All 33 passengers, and 7 crew, and 4 AL Qaeda hijackers are killed. Flight 93 was only 18 minutes flying time to the US Capitol from crash site. The large rock that you see in this video marks the point of impact.

Terrorism hits close to home!
I'll never forget the morning of September, 11 2001, I was watching the twin towers burn on TV. All of a sudden, I heard chatter on my police scanner about a plane that was flying erratically over our area. I went outside and looked at the sky, but I saw nothing. I started to hear the sirens of police cars and firetrucks screaming up the highway. I went back inside my house to see what was being reported on my police scanner. That's when I heard that a plane had crashed over the ridge. I found out later that a plane had crashed in Shanksville which is only a few minutes flying time from my home.
I take my boys hiking in Shanksville on my friends property. The crash site is only a couple of miles away. This was our first visit to the memorial.
