Grant Collins Drum Solo at NQADSC

This is a tune called 'All Blues' written by Miles Davis with the Larry Carlton/Steve Lukather rendition. On Drums - Grant Collins, Bass - Mark Peric, Guitar (left) - Jonathon Andrew, Guitar (right) - Nathaniel Andrew. This was played on February 11th 2008 at the Andergrove Tavern at an event called the North Queensland Annual Drum Solo and Bass Solo Competition. Grant Collins was the Drum Solo Judge and Mark Peric was the Bass Solo Judge.

This guy reminds me of Chris Brien except he plays in a more fusion style whereas chris plays in more of a groove based style but with very simlilar ostinato concepts.

This is a great solo. I'd love to to Grant Collins and Chris Brien play together.

@anotheruser22 that's a samba groove. play it RLRL RRLR LRLR RLRL where the right hand is accented - (ghost the left hand). sounds great when you move it around the kit.

mjollner23... Are your ears painted on? Grants playing is anything but sloppy. I'd put him against Virgil any day of the week. Don't get me wrong, Virgil deserves all the praise he gets but Grant simply is good, better, best. You on the other hand are fucking pathetic. Why don't you post some of your playing on here and show us all what you have contributed to the drumming world seeings though you're so fucking great... girls dick, get a life!

Grant does alot of stuff at the same time but when you listen to any one limb, F.ex the woodblock with foot at 3,13. He stresses the doubles and it all sounds sloppy. It's very difficult, but we are playing music yes? No point in playing 5/7/4 in 3 before you can do it. It should sound easy long before you take it to stage. Forgive me, I'm rambling...

So unless I can cook you mean I have to like the food? Consumer's can always have an opinion. We're the one buying or not buying. That said, I do play drums, but the way I do it and the way Grant does is not comparable. I play songs, not solos. Grant plays incredibly advanced stuff but he barely pulls it off most of the times. Compare that with Donati who's almost always on the head of a pin.
