I am hoping that this is a fun way to enjoy some new artists and new videos. The most important aspect of these "contests" is not the outcome, rather, it is exploring new artists and differnt styles. At least that is what I hope my videos represent. This is a fun aria so enjoy.
Again a score of 1-5 for singing/characterization:
Kathleen Battle - 1988
Ileana Cotrubas - 1986
Beverly Sills - 1979
Luciana Serra - 1996
Inva Mula - 2005
Lillian Watson - 1980
Ying Huang - 1997
Edita Gruberova - 1977
Nancy Hermiston - 1993
Susanna Rigacci - 1993
Patrizia Ciofi - 2007
Isable Rey - 2006
Mariella Devia - 1982
Ruth Ann Swenson - 1987 (sorry for the poor quality of this one)

  • Thank you so much for sharing this wonferful video clip sang by Ms. Serra from the Opera Don Pasquale. She is magnifique and does a fantastic job in interpreting this role.

  • Indeed, not good in this aria, alltough I like her very much.

  • I just bought a 1989 recording of Serra singing this aria and I would give it 5/5. It's on her "Opera Arias" CD released by Nuova Era.

  • too big of a voice for this role and for this aria.. 3/3

  • I have never seen Serra live, only in recordings. Maybe her voice just doesn't record well. I've heard worse recordings from her so by her standards this is actually quite good. It's shrill and metallic, but not that bad. 3/2.

  • Dreadful voice here - She sounds like she is singing through a metal can. I'm sure she must be ill during this performance because she has a much better voice. For this performance:

    Voice: 1

    Character: 2

    Overall F-

  • 4/4

  • It's hard to find the humor in this performance because the camera is so far away and I certainly don't hear any humor in her voice. As for her metallic sound, it's what I've come to expect from Serra. I think her sound and technique work well in some roles (like the Queen of the Night) but in other roles she sounds like a disaster. Anyway, 4/4.

  • Metallic and painfull to the ears. 1/1

  • One of Luciana's great characterisations. On youtube the voice sounds rather metallic, but in the theatre she was just great! 4.5/5
