Ethel Bennett has been infected with scarlett fever after treating an infected patient. Scared, she turns to Doctor Millais Culpin, with whom she has been growing close. Millais is worried about her, and constantly visits the isolation ward to check up on her. Desperate, he talks with her even when she isn't conscious, trying to keep her with him...

@saffronmelody They DID marry. From a biography of Millais Culpin: "He continued to work at the London Hospital, specializing in surgery, and became a F.R.C.S. in 1907. That year he went to Shanghai, where in 1913 he married Ethel Maude Bennett, matron of the British hospital, at which he was senior surgeon." Made me ridiculously happy to see that. :)
