Reminicsences de Don Juan is one of the most spectacular show pieces ever written for piano. Franz Liszt summarized Mozart´s opera into some 20 minutes of pianistic nightmare. Pianistic capacity is always limiting the performance of this composition. And it´s musical qualities are increasingly recognized. Juh Hee Suh was a prodigy from South Corea and I remember her performance of Rachmaninovs 3:d piano concerto around 1987 in Stockoholm, Sweden. A tiny little girl entered the stage and played with a masculine power that was just ubelievable. This recording is from a concert in Stockholm 1986. It is the most breathtaking recording of the Don Juan paraphrase I ever have heard. She takes all the risks that this piece require of the performer. In addition, she makes a youthful, lyrical and powerful interpretation that should make any listener astonished. I dont´t know how her career continued. Very little is to be found about her at Google.
