On Jan 23rd, 2011, Calefax performed two short concerts in the iconic Bradbury Building, Los Angeles. During the second concert I had a photocamera in the pocket of my jacket and taped parts of the pieces that I didn't play myself (embeded journalism!). Sorry about the poor quality, hope the clip gives an impression though of the atmosphere during the concerts. The music is (parts of) Debussy's 'Syrinx' (Raaf Hekkema on soprano saxophone) and 'Pan' from the Six Metamorphoses by Benjamin Britten (Oliver Boekhoorn on oboe).

  • This is a very interesting interpretation of Claude Debussy's Syrinx. I've not heard it on soprano saxophone before and it seems to be a good choice as the music is open to individual interpretation and the building adds something special to the sound. Solo flute of course is very haunting, but this soprano saxophone is much better than I'd expected.
