After this day, BBC Sport came crashing down
-
@y2p731. Things like Super league show, motd, football focus, final scores, motd2, football league show, championship (now replaced by football league show), athletics, darts, snooker and other sport.

Its a disgrace that they didnt even keep the music - they said they will try thier best to use it... i havent heard that tune on bbc television for three years
-
Grandstand was a legend in the BBC and British TV !
How BBC could kill it off -just shows how out of touch BBC sport is with its public.
A real sad day this - all my childhood memories - I still hold onto them

Claire Balding is cool and it is good that she is well after having cancer.

What is the name of that music at 3:00 ?
-
Suspect you are not alone. Nowadays it seems that progs are aimed for a young audience instead of maintaining once proud traditions whilst our licence fee is wasted in overseas news reports of obscure subjects etc.

Nothing. The sport is just presented as 'racing' 'football focus' or 'world snooker' instead of lumping it under the Grandstand banner.
However, Bowls, Twatting around the ice in a skirt, Ski Sunday, Rugby Union highlights that Sky Sports showed live the day before summed up Grandstand's problem. The live sport it once had, to the collection of schdule fillers it now has (except F1 and the Olympics/Commonwealth Games) meant the 'brand' of live sport was largely irrelevant.

So what did they replace with Grandstand with?
-
It's gone from the telly, and while it wouldn't be the same, bringing the Grandstand format and theme back on the radio just might work.
In retrospect the writing was on the wall when they started to use different opening credits for Football Focus in the early nineties, then later for Final Score. Clearly a solid 4 hours of sport in the weekend schedule was too big a risk to viewing figures, so they started breaking it up via the back door.
The interactive red button finally sealed its fate.
Head of BBC Sport Roger Mosely is the one to blame
He said : Our sports coverage need to be revamped and Grandstand is just a brand..just a Brand?
What is he on?????
Grandstand is a BRITISH INSITUTION!
Also he said the 6 Nations cant have Grandstand plastered over at 6pm!
