This video records my attempt to role play presentation of an ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) metaphor: the chessboard metaphor. It was prepared during my psychology honours year studies for inclusion in a presentation on the use of metaphor as a technique in psychotherapy.

  • Alot to absorb, but very interesting. Can anyone tell me what the music is at the end...I love it!

  • glad you found it interesting - way too much talking by me but had a lot to fit in to a brief time slot. The music is Beethoven's Fur Elise - tis a beautiful piece.

  • I have been working on ACT recently in therapy, and at first it was a lot to wrap my mind around. This metaphor is very accurate in showing me that the more I invest in my thoughts and feelings, the less I can invest in my values. Ultimately, it's those values that really matter. Thanks for sharing!

  • Why did you choose the black pieces as the "bad" ones? Just a candid question :-) There are some chess sets that have more culturally neutral colour schemes.
