Do liberals instinctively make excuses for Muslim extremists? Sam Harris, author of "The End of Faith" and "Letter to a Christian Nation" says liberals need to realize that there are people in the Muslim world far scarier than Dick Cheney.

  • Tucker agrees because he and Sam are discussing Muslim extremists. Ask him if he understands that Islam per se is not the cause of this extremism, but religion itself in all its forms, and he'll quickly say that Christianity is different. It isn't. Fundamentalist Christians are every bit as determined to create a police state in which the Bible trumps everything: the Constitution, free speech, civil rights for gay and lesbian citizens. The two men agree on Islam, but for very different reasons.

  • Can't agree more. Sam Harris says what he says with such wisdom and clarity that even the conservatives have to admire his water-tight arguments.

  • @Lennon4ever1 You too buddy. Always enjoy a good and respectable debate with a fellow youtuber. A rare and unusual behavior right here, most people would just dumb themselves down by retorting to each other’s arguments. Sadly, not many people can agree to disagree anymore. We have to call names and resort to petty childish behavior. Anyways, look forward to hearing from you again.

  • @44warjunkie Anyway -We'll talk more later I'm off to work graveyard shift...cheers 44warjunkie

  • @44warjunkie Well then, I guess I'm in partial agreement -Yes Islam is the main cause for concern and worry. But there's plenty of evil in the Bible just like the Koran, and that is what fuels these nut-jobs in the first place! Just remember -an abortion clinic bombing is Christian terrorism just like 911..even though these crazies are a minority. At their base -these religions are all potentially dangerous and I stand by that comment 100%

  • @Lennon4ever1 I don’t think you get the basic premise of my argument. I’m not denying the past transgressions of Christianity, but Islam and what Muslims believe should concern us first before anything else about religion should concern us. And i'm also not saying leave what Christians believe alone, i'm saying don't say they are just as bad as the jihadists. Christians today are the lesser of the two evils.

  • @44warjunkie I urge you to watch one of Sam Harris' lectures where he clearly illustrates blind faith is the problem. The sooner civilizations shed their superstitious 'faith' and embrace science and reason, the better off we will all be. Your sports analogy is off, because I'm aware of the differences in religions but see the similarities in the dangers of possible fundamentalist cults that hijack them. I will ask you straight -Are you a christian?

  • @44warjunkie Well, at a basic level- these religions are the same...They both attempt to impose 'religious law' on the rest of us with their outdated barbaric holy books which BTW have 0 evidence behind them!! (Islam is the worst culprit at the present time) with horrific 'Sharia law' and calling for the execution of cartoonists for Christ's sake! -No pun intended.

  • @44warjunkie BTW.. here's a quote to ponder....'Once Christianity lost it's right to burn heretics at the stake, their best argument is gone!' -Issac Asimov

  • @Lennon4ever1 i also fear the resurgence of Christian fundamentalism, but it won't do us any good for the time being to equate all religions as the same. Religion is a word like sports; there are sports like soccer and others like kickboxing. Clearly one presents more of an impediment to a health than the other. Right now in 2012, Islam is kickboxing. And you are trying to say that kickboxing is just like soccer.

  • @44warjunkie We have not seen much 'watering down' of Islam over the past 1600 years that we have seen in Christianity obviously. But, there are sinister Christian organizations out there that want nothing less than Christian indoctrination in every aspect of American education and NO separation of church and state what-so-ever...some of these fundamentalists want gays executed or at least locked up for instance. We can't have that!

  • @44warjunkie Absolutely I compare the two! Of course, fortunately - Christianity as a whole has undergone an evolution from it's fundamentalist 'heretic'-burning past, but just watch Jesus Camp if you want to see the potential for the darker side of Christianity to regress back to it! My comparison is that superstitious fundamentalist faith like 'Islam' AND Christianity are dangerous to free speech and civil rights..
