Your doctor has recommended that you undergo hand surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. But what exactly is carpal tunnel syndrome?

The median nerve, which carries sensation to the thumb and first three fingers, passes through a natural passageway in the wrist. This opening - called the carpal tunnel is formed by arch-shaped wrist bones and a connecting ligament.

Various conditions, such as pregnancy, injury, arthritis and changes in the tendons caused by repetitive motion can crowd the already narrow tunnel, putting pressure on the nerve.

This added pressure can cause a tingling sensation in the fingers and the thumb and may even lead to numbness, pain and restricted movement. This combination of symptoms is called the carpal tunnel syndrome.

  • As a massage therapist, I treat clients who thought they had carpal tunnel syndrome when they first came in but ended up being nerve entrapment in the scalenes, sub scapularis, or pectoralis minor muscle. The symptoms, numbness, tingling, sharp burning, or aching pain in the arms and/or hands mimic exactly those of CTS. Therapeutic massage (not a spa) with active release techniques applied will diminish those symptoms without surgery. CTS gets misdiagnosed and in many cases surgery not needed.

  • I have all the symptoms for it, but it's in my left little-finger??? is it soemthing else? i had it when i woke up, been like that for hours now...

  • please visit utbay.com

  • I have a mild case because of using my PC too much it tingles and is sort of numb. No pain and it seems to be going away but will it flare up easier next time???

  • @razor197 Is hard to self diagnose this condition. Did u went to the doctor?. My problem suddenly dissapeared. I stop using the computer a lot, i guess resting my wrists against the computer desk for long periods of time was making this pain to start.

  • Simple bright presentation

  • RNpedia.com to know more about this..

  • This video was great. I told my doctor about all fingers except the pinky being numb. he said that he thought it was frost bite, but referred me to a neurologist anyway for testing, turns out I definately have carpal tunnel, this explained in good detail for me what was going on!!

  • I hate this, can't play FPS in computer anymore >.<
