http://www.rottenbananas.org Canada's Tar Sands destroys forests, spews toxic waste and threatens communities in the US and Canada. Unfortunately, the average Dole & Chiquita banana -- which travels thousands of miles from the tropics to the produce aisle in your grocery store -- uses fuel from Canada's Tar Sands for shipping.
Miss Chiquita and others went to a grocery store in Chicago to let customers know the true cost of their bananas.
Already, 20 major companies have committed to move away from highly toxic fuels such as Tar Sands fuel. Tell Chiquita and Dole to say no to Canada's Tar Sands: http://www.rottenbananas.org
lololo...what skanky losers......I love how these bannana losers are back pedaling now since every store and politician are boycotting Chiquita...I will never buy from those losers again

@gaiagale And when, exactly, was the last time you flew over Fort McMurray? What's that? Never? Oh, I see.
As for the rest of your comment, I have no idea what you're on about -- and I suspect you don't either.

@bladder1010 one only has to fly over with one's eyes open to see the evidence
I repeat "if the cleaning up story were true then why are the 'clean ups' of the spills and spews from the current production being" ...avoided
surely they could jumped at the chance to provide evidence that the 'clean up' claims are true

@gaiagale Hmm, let's see ... I've worked in the Ft. McMurray area for over 10 years. When was the last time you were here? What that? Never? Oh, I see.
I've yet to see any "moonscape" around here.

@Billy2Tubes I found your comment while reading others ...reading "gaiagale is correct" caused me to question 'correct about what? exactly' ...I am interested too in your "you can open pit mine ... in about 2% of it's area" concept ...in fact your comment on the whole fascinates me in that if I've understood your comment you propose a method that could be an effective less toxic alternative to the current methods of production
your comment suggests that you have experience in 'oil production'

@jmcclungish thank-you for getting back to me so quickly ..this exchange/sharing of ideas is interesting ...I still beIieve that you are presenting the truth as you know it so I humbly put to you that IF the 'cleaning up' story were true then why are the 'clean ups' of the spills and spews from the current production methods being left to spread and/or taken to the courts ...these 'cleaning up' could be swift and effective as well as an opportunity for proving the "cleaning up claim"
gaiagale 1 month ago
@jmcclungish The alternative is in fact conflict oil which itself is a serious pollutant to the environment especially when considering the pollution during shipping of this oil. So yes once again Oil Sands oil is the environmentally friendly choice. It is also the ethical choice when considering both the environmental impact (once again remember the pollution of shipping) and the human rights impact. This does not even take into consideration the other toxic waste of shipping and ship breaking.

@gaiagale The physical evidence that you keep mentioning is the "moon scape" which is the during mining process. Over 70 square kilometers of land has been reclaimed and the rate at which the reclamation is occurring is accelerating. The oil sands are also becoming cleaner all the time. however you continue to ignore the alternative. Societies addiction to oil in general is not going to stop over night. As a result the oil has to come from somewhere.

@bladder1010 hmmmm ...I'm sure that you'd like your wager to be solid but the physical evidence appears more like 'moonscape' than forest ...oops
clearly "Gaia's oil spill" was more balanced than the claim that "we started cleaning up"
if the cleaning up story were true then why are the 'clean ups' of the spills and spews from the current production areas being jumped at asbeing an opportunity for proving the "cleaning up claim"

@brewguy100 astute observation (the name calling I can do without) regarding "Canadian Oil"
where can Canadians buy Canadian oil and gas?!?!? I want to buy Canadian oil and gas. ...we have the right to buy locally ...within Canada I mean ;-])
We have earned the right to buy Canadian ...surely we can buy our own "Canadian Oil"
cheaper than other countries can especially within our own land boundries.
