I took this video after a talk I had with some relatives from Southern California. They were pretty shocked when I told them about the many malls in Beirut, but their jaws hit the floor when I told them that we ate at the Cinnabon there, just near the 8 screen movie theater. Anyways, this 15 seconds mostly captures some philipino maids with their Lebanese Families in Achrafieh, a primarily Christian neighborhood near the heart of the city.

  • so what do u mean by posting ds vedio????idiot.

  • looking to spark an intelligent conversation about immigration in the middle east and the world . . . take a look at the comments below... vediot.

  • It's true that there is a long history of violence towards maids in lebanon and across the middle east as a whole, a shame really, but I'm trying to look at this from a more sociological perspective. I hate to say it, but one of the main reasons the philipino's seem to have become so popular is because they are regarded as physically cleaner than the other two popular ethnicities in lebanon. truly sad. In the eyes of many lebanese its a symbol of having upgraded, a status symbol.

  • This video is very stupid...

if you want to show the different malls & the nice shopping districts of Lebanon,

no need to mention that Philipinos work there as maids.

    Waste of time!

  • ACTUALLY, the fact that philipino maids are in this video is actually quite interesting to note since this mall is in a well-off district of Beirut as they are becoming the most popular type of maid to have, ahead of both Ethiopians and Sri Lankan's.

  • For your info, the Philipines is about sixity millions people, and if say Lebanon have 10,000 philipine workers, this constitutes about 0.0166% of their population. The rest of the population either stays home, or go to the west or US to get a better job and better treatment. Another issue if you look at the ranking of the GDP in the world: Philipines ranks 36 and Lebanon ranks 83.

  • Also, I have never bought anything made in Lebanon but if you shop around in the US you could see a lot of things made in the Philipines. Also, Philippines never blames its failure on other nearby countries (and I dont mean only Israel but I also mean Syria).

  • Doesn't seem like a "sociological perspective."

  • @xoxo221x THAT'S NOT TRUE! Hey look at me i'm wearing Prada. :P I'm sorry :P But that's just not true. Im Lebanese and im not deying there is equal rights for maids, but we don't treat them as maids, that's just exagorgation (or however you spell it).

  • @xoxo221x

Now, you know, why many of them immigrate to the U.S. ^_^

There's Healthcare, Free schooling, and more rights.

There is no government, they don't do crap for their people. They're just figureheads who get paid a lot. It's everyone for themselves, they don't get benefits, from taxes. Not like in the U.S.

  • The maids that come to Lebanon, hope to send money back to their families, bc their countries (Sri Lanka, Ethopia, the Phillipines, etc) have really shitty governments. Yes, more crappier than Lebanon's.They earn more $ in one month (in Lebanon), than they see from an entire year in their homelands. My point? It's their choice to go there; they're not kidnapped.

Unfortunatly, that's life! They're paid, so it's not slavery.

  • It's Filipino not Philipino.

  • lebanon has horrible human rights. doesn't matter how beautiful if ppl r cruel and bluntly racist.

they have the OLD mindset of "HEY we are the best"

what they need to learn is basic human rights.

    try searching Maid in Lebanon

and see how people who work in this country are treated.

google migrant rights news in lebanon

In lebanon there is no law to protect workers...they are commonly treated as slaves, raped, murdured, abused, no pay.

when will slavery and racism end?

  • stupid video

  • go to Philippines we have a lot of malls there just type Philippines Malls,,, and also does your come with a security... and do you still have malls in there shit no way Israel forget to bomb this one then ha haaaaaaa get it israel forget this one just kidding man i am just kidding
