Politics first, profit second, art third.
What you want, perhaps, are films, not movies. Personally, if I want culture, I'll read a book. But the main problem is that movies are so expensive to make. Perhaps that is the effect rather than the cause, but once upon a time, movie theaters had one screen and often showed two movies, A and B. (The original Absent-mided Professor was a B movie.)
So now they go for the sure thing, because they cost so much. (Blame television.)

movies suck nowadays because these directors & producers dont know how to make anymore likeable & relate-able characters. all the characters in movies nowadays are just lame annoying idiots who suck. theres nobody to say "aw that was cool or this dude is badass or this chick is awesome" its all about cgi & special effects. good storytelling & characters are hard to find nowadays. its sad because i love movies but theres very little to look forward to. hollywood changed & got stale
