There's no need to have live lures in coursing. The almost identical drag coursing activity (also called lure coursing) takes place successfully in countries such as the UK, America amd Australia.
In Ireland, lure coursing is sometimes used to exercise greyhounds, proving that greyhounds are happy to chase an inanimate object pulled along the ground. There is no reason why the hare can't be taken out of hare coursing permanently.
This video from Australian show, Burke's Backyard, perfectly illustrates lure coursing. It shows the lure set up to mimic a hare by changing direction sharply. Its speed can be altered easily and different set-ups can be put in place with pulleys and string.
A ban on hare coursing should immediately be implemented in Ireland. If the coursers want to continue, they have this alternative which sees no cruelty to our wildlife.
Please email "Ban Hare Coursing in Ireland" to Green Party Environment Minister, John Gormley - minister@environ.ie
This is wonderfully awesome alternative to the ole way of torturing the poor innocent hare. Everyone is having fun, dogs, ppl... its a win-win. Lets spread this message!!!!!!
