Many of the comments seem very ignorant and selfish. I support the right for tribes to be able to hunt, but the fact is that the whales ARE close to extinction, regardless of who is responsible. To ignore this fact just because your not responible for it, or because it is inconvient, is just foolish and shameful. It's because of people who think like this, that many indiginous tribes get no hunting privledges at all.

Natives never over fished or hunted. It was and still is the White Devils which over fish and over hunt to point of extinction.

I love how western imperialist celebs think they can just decide who is and who is not allowd to hunt whales based on their history.
The Japanese have been whaling for 4000 years. Westerners have no right to intervein in their research into their culture. I am also very happy to know that the IWC is allowing native tribes to continue their practices! We do not have the right to take the rights of natives away! It was westerners who destroyed the whale populations in the first place!

Makah Nation is exercising its sovereign rights under IWC and 1855 treaty with the US. Makah did not hunt whales to the brink of extinction; those whose ancestors implemented mass slaughter can take responsibilty for that. KIA KAHA!
