@Marleyites The ultra light class is an aircraft Gyro or Airplane that is only 254 Lbs
carries only 5 gallons of fuel no more that 65 Mph celebrated. There are other considerations like no night flying except one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset. You can look up this regulation at the FAA site it is "Part 103" of the FAA rules and regulations. hope this helps, Jerry.

@jwdever1 I read that if the gyro is "ultralight" it's not necessary to get a license. What makes it an ultralight? The weight of the gyro itself, or w/ someone in it? Thanks if you can answer this.

Mac is short for McCulloch. These 4 cylinder 72 and 90 HP engines where also used on the Bensens. The ease of starting, long life, light weight made the Mac engines the choice for Gyrocopters owners. The volks engine was nice too but to heavy and took the Gyro out of the ultra light class. VW 150 Lbs Mac 60 Lbs. Big difference in speed also. The mac had fewer moving parts compared to the VW engine. I have 4 Gyros all with mac engines, they are a great engine.

What's a mac engine? I thought the original Bensons used VW engines.
