here is an excuse, how about because you cant because you had sex with a man 23 years ago! i understand safety screening for blood donors but the current measures in place are retarded. especially when you get banned from donating for the rest of your life if your a man who has had sex with another man even once since 1977. what about women? or women who have sex with gay or bi men? whats the diff? i hope no one dies because the FDA wont change the restrictions.

I'm the father of a two-year-old who has had 52 blood transfusions and will probably need such transfusions for the rest of her life, as she cannot produce red blood cells. So far, that's 52 cases of complete strangers saving her life.
So, to those of you that have given blood or have wanted and tried, even if you weren't allowed, I'd like to say "thank you".

Just wanted to point out why it is a good thing People who don't have the money or can't be bothered to give money to charity can give something else that you know is actually saving people Looked it up the lawsuit was made because some lazy half arsed people in America couldn't be bothered to do safety checks on blood that HAD ALREADY BEEN COLLECTED
Look up about nerve damage... AND without blood transfusions from STRANGERS my brother would have died a lot earlier than he did

@cougarchopsluv thats just how i feel. i get sick of the guilt trips they try to lay on people to donate.people error..the Red Cross recently had to pay millions in fines for unsafe blood collection. Also donating blood i learned can cause nerve damage. only was i would donate is if it was someone i cared about. i don't care about strangers

All the people who take the blood are trained and qualified nurses. They also do multiple tests to make sure that a false positive/negative doesn't show up, besides their testing process is VERY strict. But you have to think about it from the other side of things. What if you were the one who needed blood and no one wanted to donate, how would you feel?
We need to give blood to SAVE others... isn't the fact that you save three lives every time you donate worth something?

Do you know the name of the company who did this, because I just found out a political party in my country copied the idea and made a whole blood-donating campaign exactly the same only translated in romanian...have a look by searching on youtube: "Elena Udrea si OTPDL Bucuresti - Doneaza sange, Salveaza vieti"

I'm exited I get to donate tomorrow at my school! :)

I donated blood for the first time in October and I'm going this Thurdsay.
The staff treats you like you're some kind of god, I got a free pencil with a little nurse on top of it as a thank you gift. It didn't hurt, all in all (from the paperwork to them making sure you're ok before lettign you go) it took about 30 minutes, max.
Seriously people, instead of spending your day on Facebook, go and donate life, it's a great feeling to know that you're gonna save someone's life :D

We had a blood drive at my school not too long ago but I couldn't donate because I'm on seizure medication and an epileptic.:( I want to donate but can't so please do it for me.
