SEATTLE TIMES —
Firefighters are battling a fire at an apartment complex south of Seattle. The blaze is sending a plume of smoke that is visible from downtown Seattle and as far away as Tacoma.

The fire broke out at the Lighthouse Apartments Sunday afternoon south of Seattle. The nonprofit Union Gospel Mission owns and operates the four-story, 18-unit apartment for low-income people.

The group's senior vice president Gary Fast says about 30 people had to flee the burning apartment building and that "everyone is accounted for." He said two people were taken to hospitals but he did not know the extent of their injuries.

Fast said "Everybody is shaken up. It's a tough thing. Some of their vehicles were consumed in the fire, too."

The building has 18 units, but two were empty.

  • wow that must have been hot the power pole is smoking

  • It's also quite annoying when you're watching everything you own burn up and people are taking pictures with their cell phones.

  • This was my house, i was interviewed in the other news story & it was pretty funny how much the reporter was trying to sound "concerned" haha. Whatever, Old news now.

  • Next time you make a video, don't stand next to a stoned moron. Or tell her to shut up.

  • Years ago, before we had MDT's in the trucks, I asked dispatch "What were those numbers again, please"? She replied "You won't need 'em" Sure enough, when we turned left out of the station....I didn't need any numbers!

  • Even after 25 years in the fire service, it still amazes me how much water it takes to kill a fire like that. So much energy. Amazing.

  • well it's done for...

  • Looks like a real annoying place to try and find a spot to set up a ladder or high-rise truck.

  • i meant feel bad

  • oh god i fell bad for the people who lived there
