The conditions on this switchback reminiscent of South Dakota's snow ground blizzards. The sky is blue and clear with the wind blowing and drifting snow. It came as surprise that the wind would assist you in one direction and hinder in the other. Hike out time on the South Kiabab trail 8.5 hours. Would I do this again? Yes, winter of 2009 -- 2010 is the plan. Rim to rim hike during the winter -- Love that white stuff -- SNOW - What an Adventure for an old fool -- the travel gods smiled upon me.
