The song is all about nostalgia and melancholy reminiscing, the song, not Joni's version.
Hayley has managed to extract everything that made this a great song and replace it with pop banality. Bland, deeply bland and pointless.

A lot of people criticize the fact that this version is more upbeat than the original and therefore less realistic. I think Joni Mitchell's version was supposed to be sad because she was older. It seemed like she didn't have very much to look forward to. As for Hayley, she is young and has the rest of her life in front of her, therefore she is rightfully optimistic.
